“Die Rocky Die!”
Feb. 13, 1997

After only three months in WWE, Rocky Maivia faces off against Intercontinental Champion Triple H on a special Thursday night Raw. With the title on the line, Maivia surprises everyone by besting the blueblood for the championship gold. Soon after, the WWE Universe turns on him for accomplishing too much too soon, inciting crowds everywhere to chant, “Die Rocky Die” and “Rocky Sucks.”

During a match pitting Faarooq against Chainz on Raw, Rocky Maivia returns from injury and delivers a mid-match Rock Bottom to Chainz to help Faarooq claim the victory. The Rock and Triple H – leaders of rival factions The Nation and D-Generation X, respectively – face off in a titanic Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. Soon after this match, The Nation disbands and The Rock again hears the chants, “Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!”
Corporate Sellout

Brahma Bull vs. Rattlesnake, Part 1
March 28, 1999

At the height of The Attitude Era, The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin were on a collision course that culminated in their classic match for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XV. Even though The Rock kicks out of the Stunner (the first Superstar to do so) his efforts simply aren’t enough to retain his title. Incensed, The Rock throws Austin and the Smoking Skull title into the Detroit River two weeks later on Raw.
“This Is Your Life!”
Sept. 27, 1999

Hoping to get on The Great One’s good side, Mankind stages the infamous “This Is Your Life!” segment on Raw. The People’s Champ is introduced to figures from his past, including his high school girlfriend and gym coach, whom he verbally runs down as only The Rock can. Perhaps it was the inclusion of Yurple the Clown that made this one of the highest-rated segments in WWE history.
Rumble Near The Bronx
Jan. 23, 2000

Winning the Royal Rumble Match is an achievement every Superstar must add to his résumé to attain iconic status. As the 24th entrant in the 2000 Rumble, The People’s Champion did just that, eliminating five Superstars—including Big Show, for the win—to score his WWE Championship opportunity at WrestleMania.
Brahma Bull vs. Rattlesnake, Part 2
April 1, 2001

The Great One should have known something was wrong when a No Disqualification stipulation was added right before the start of his WrestleMania X-Seven match against “Stone Cold.” It would take multiple Stunners, chair strikes and an unthinkable alliance with The Chairman for The Texas Rattlesnake to defeat The Great One for the WWE Championship. That’s Austin two, Rock zero at The Show of Shows.
The People’s WCW Champion
Aug. 19, 2001

When The Rock comes back to WWE after filming his first major film role in The Mummy Returns, he’s given a choice: Join The Alliance (the combined invading forces of WCW and ECW) or stick with Team WWE. The Great One chooses the home team and goes on to defeat Booker T for the WCW Championship at SummerSlam — his first of two reigns with that title.

Although he’s agreed to face John Cena in the Main Event at WrestleMania XXVIII, The Rock accepts his rival’s offer to team up at Survivor Series against The Awesome Truth. But not before an historic tirade in which he promises to make the phrases #BootsToAsses and #CenasLadyParts trend worldwide in mere minutes. They do.
